Inclusion at Harrold

We endeavour to achieve maximum inclusion of all children (including vulnerable learners) whilst meeting their individual needs. This includes: children who have English as an Additional Language (EAL), Gifted & Talented children (G & T), Pupil Premium children (P.P.), Looked after Children (LAC) and children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). All teachers provide differentiated learning opportunities for all the children within the school and provide materials appropriate to children’s interests and abilities. This ensures that all children have full access to the school curriculum.

We make every effort to narrow the gap in attainment between groups of learners and their peers. There may be some specific learning needs specified in an Educational Health and Care plan (EHCP) which we tailor teaching and learning to support and facilitate the individual learning needs, specifically for their current stage of learning. We also work closely with external organisations, to provide the best support and care for each individual.

We, as a school, are in a unique position to promote positive wellbeing and good mental health in children. Staff have opportunities to build relationships with, and offer support to, their children and their families by:

  • Creating an environment where children feel safe and happy
  • Identifying children’s specific mental health needs
  • Providing support for pupils with particular needs
  • Referring to and/or delivering specialist therapeutic provision.

It is our responsibility to ensure that pupils with special educational needs have the maximum opportunity to attain and make progress in line with their peers. Accurate assessment of need and carefully planned programmes, which address the root causes of any learning difficulty, are essential ingredients of success for SEND children.

We aim to keep parents fully informed of their child’s progress and attainment and to ensure that pupils are involved, where practicable, in decisions affecting their future SEND provision.

We believe pupils will be helped to overcome their difficulties by parents, teachers and pupils working together.

If your child has been identified as having a special educational need there is further information and confidential support provided by Bedford Borough through the Parent Partnership Service. Please follow this link for more information.
